Parade Grounds Gazebo Ornament

The Ornament depicts the Parade Grounds Gazebo located on Offutt Air Force Base.
The gazebo was a gift from the Strategic Air Command Consultation
Committee in 1992. It was part of the Parade Grounds restoration and
is similar in design to a gazebo that stood on the grounds from the early
1900s to the 1950s. Also included in the ornament design are two
cannon sets, which are
replicas of cannons used on Fort Crook and Offutt AFB until they were
melted for iron during World War II.
Offutt AFB, located near the city of Omaha,
Nebraska, began its great heritage in 1894 with the construction of Fort
Crook. Fort Crook's flying field was designated Offutt Field in 1924
which later became Offutt Air Force Base in January 1948. Today,
Offutt AFB is the
host base for US Strategic Command (formerly Strategic Air Command) and
the Fightin' 55th Wing.
This ornament was produced on behalf of the Offutt AFB Officer's Spouses'
Club.
Ornaments are available for $5.00 at monthly functions.
